Play and team building are powerful ways to energise teams and transform the way companies work. At Arcane Experience, we’re at the forefront of this playful revolution, using gamification to reinvent corporate events. Here’s how play can drive change, strengthen cohesion and boost employee engagement.
Team building: an essential tool for modern companies
Far more than a bit of fun, team building has become a genuine driver of performance and cohesion within organisations.
What is team building?
The term team buildingcovers a whole range of activities and experiences designed to strengthen the bonds within a team. The goals are many: better communication, sharper creativity, stronger mutual trust and collective problem-solving. At Arcane Experience, we believe team building can spark a positive group dynamic that lasts.
How has team building evolved to meet Gen Z expectations?
The arrival of Generation Z in the workplace has had a real influence on team building practices. This digital-native generation is looking for authentic experiences with real meaning.
As pointed out by The Escape Lab during a round table held on 23 September 2024, team building is reinventing itself to give participants room to breathe. It’s no longer about entertainment alone, but about creating immersive experiences that chime with the values and expectations of this new generation of employees.
Why does team building matter in the real world?
In an age of digital everything and remote working, face-to-face interaction has never mattered more. The combination of play and team building plays a key role, creating chances to share and connect in the real world.
These collective moments break down silos, build empathy and shape a strong company culture. As we highlighted at our event, shared experiences built around cooperation are fundamental to building close-knit, high-performing teams.
23 September: a meeting of minds
On 23 September 2024, Arcane Experience hosted a flagship event at the Escape LAB Paris, bringing together experts and professionals around the theme “Games and Events”. The evening became a genuine laboratory of ideas, exploring how play can transform team building practices and amplify the impact of corporate events.
The Escape Lab opened the discussion with an overview of team building in the Gen Z era, stressing the importance of authentic, cooperative experiences. Our Arcane Experience team then showed the power of play in awareness-raising around crucial issues such as CSR, disability and cybersecurity.
Our partner Le Fil Rougeadded plenty to the debate, setting out how bespoke games can carry a company’s messages, while Game of Quiz rounded off the evening with an interactive demonstration, showing in concrete terms how effective play can be for learning and team cohesion.
The event highlighted the value of collective experience in the real world, the need to adapt practices to new generations, and the versatility of play as a tool for transformation within companies. It also paved the way for future collaborations in events and game-based team building.
How can play become a catalyst for change in business?
Play is far more than entertainment: it’s a powerful catalyst for change within companies. Combine play with team building and you have a fresh way to tackle the complex challenges facing modern organisations.
The power of play in raising awareness of business issues
Play has a unique ability to capture attention and spark participants’ interest. By creating a playful, safe environment , it makes sensitive or complex subjects accessible and engaging.
At Arcane Experience, we’ve seen how much this approach helps people absorb new concepts, and how it encourages employees to take an active part in the company’s challenges.
Case studies: CSR, disability, cybersecurity
Our work has shown how effective play can be across many business areas. On CSR, our awareness-raising games help employees grasp the concrete impact of their everyday actions on the environment and on society.
On disability, playful simulations build empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by people with disabilities. On cybersecurity, our escape rooms put participants in realistic scenarios, training them in good practice in a way that’s interactive and memorable.
Why play works for retention and engagement
A playful approach stimulates the brain’s natural learning mechanisms. By engaging several senses and triggering positive emotions, play helps information stick.
What’s more, the interactive, collaborative side of our games boosts engagement , encouraging participants to apply their new knowledge in their day-to-day work. This method is especially effective at embedding key messages for the long term and prompting lasting changes in behaviour.
