Our social and environmental commitments
Environment, workplace wellbeing, human rights: corporate social responsibility is one of the defining challenges of our time. Who said large companies and a genuine CSR policy couldn’t go together? Business ethics take work, but they’re entirely within reach.
Committed to social, environmental and sustainability issues, Arcane has been taking action for several years — not least by sourcing from responsible suppliers, in line with the voluntary ISO 20400 standard. The stakes are even higher in the events industry, which relies on a long list of suppliers (shops, caterers, set designers, technicians, directors and more) — which means a great deal of buying, across a lot of different categories. So we do everything we can to make sure our ethics are reflected in our CSR policy, and to build sustainability concerns into our events.
Our action reaches beyond the agency itself: as a creator of corporate events, we make most of our purchases on behalf of our clients. That’s why we share our responsible purchasing charter with every company we work with. This approach also benefits our clients, whose own CSR strategy is strengthened in the process.
So what exactly do we buy responsibly?
Most of our spending goes into producing our games: printing game booklets, buying technical equipment (cameras, sound gear), and sourcing props, décor and costumes of every kind.
Outside production, our purchases fall mainly into communications — printing promotional posters, for example — and administration, such as ordering office supplies.
Buying in a socially responsible way is therefore a central question for the Arcane team whenever we run a corporate event.
A positive environmental impact
To put these social and environmental purchasing practices into action, the whole Arcane team helped draw up a list of responsible commitments:
- Ethical suppliers
Given the nature of our work, every project involves a large number of suppliers. Choosing them well is crucial. We therefore buy from committed, responsible partners. We favour online purchasing from local suppliers to reduce our carbon footprint, as well as small independent shops. Low-impact delivery methods such as bike couriers are always preferred. And we limit our use of mass retail platforms whose social models fall short.
-
Caterers with a conscience
We bring in caterers for the corporate events we run. In keeping with our CSR approach, we choose partners who share our values. That’s the case with Baluchon, a social enterprise caterer that supports employment inclusion and uses organic, locally sourced produce. We favour partners who have banned single-use plastic from their operations.
We also work with the organic artisan chocolate maker Mon Jardin Chocolaté to offer our clients high-quality local chocolates as gifts at their company offsites.
-
Recycling rather than wasting
At Arcane, we firmly believe old things make the best treasures, so we favour second-hand items that we give a fresh twist to decorate our events. The benefit: bringing forgotten objects back to life and cutting waste. Among our favourite places to shop: La Ressourcerie Créative, Emmaüs, and of course car boot sales and vintage shops.
-
Printing that respects your CSR commitments
Aware of how much paper our games require, we work with responsible printers and use recycled paper wherever possible. We pay particular attention to suppliers holding recognised paper and printing certifications, including Imprim’Vert, FSC and PEFC.
-
Small everyday habits
Because small habits drive big changes, we apply our corporate social responsibility (CSR) charter to our daily working life too!
We drink only organic, fair-trade coffee and tea. We choose public transport over driving, and the train over the plane. We sort our waste and avoid purchases wrapped in too much plastic. And rather than throwing things away, we donate whatever no longer serves us at the office but could be useful to someone else.
Activities with lasting benefits
When it comes to sustainability, you’ll have gathered that Arcane doesn’t compromise. So we’re delighted whenever our stakeholders’ expectations align with our own. We’re happy to work with clients whose social concerns mirror ours. At our own level, we do everything we can to protect the environment. Is your organisation committed to an environmentally responsible approach? Arcane Experience is by your side for events designed with sustainability in mind.
